Island lagging behind on overseas aid contributions

The House of Keys heard this week how the Isle of Man is still significantly behind with regards to overseas aid contributions.

The Island has given just over £3 million to famine stricken and war torn countries in the past 6 months, a figure far less than other crown dependencies Jersey and Guernsey.

The figure donated is a percentage of the Islands Gross National Product.

Despite this it's estimated the aid has reached well over 4 million people.

Minister Phil Gawne was responding to a question asked by Liberal Vannin Member, Zack Hall.
