'Workshy' scientist has brought Noble's into disrepute

Michelle Inglis

A 'workshy' biomedical scientist who claimed she was being sacked for having cancer has brought Noble's Hospital into 'serious disrepute'.

That's the finding of an employment tribunal which ruled Douglas woman Michelle Inglis was not unfairly dismissed.

The unsuccesful General Election candidate had her employment terminated by the Department of Health and Social Care earlier this year.

Inglis was suspended from her position, which she'd held since 2003, after refusing to leave the hospital in December last year.

Despite being asked not to she'd turned up to work an on-call shift - following a period of illness Inglis was on a phased return to work plan and additional hours were prohibited.

The tribunal found this encounter followed a 'history of grievances, issues and allegations' which had been levelled by her, causing or creating resentment within her team.

They included claims of bullying, harassment and inappropriate touching - Inglis also branded one colleague a 'sexual predator' and accused another of 'smelling like faeces'.

Colleagues described her as having a 'high estimation' of her own ability with a 'dismissive and disrespectful' manner to other staff who ended up shouldering her workload.

Dismissing her claim the tribunal ruled she was fairly dismissed saying it was evident Inglis was 'blind to her imperfections' and was 'often in denial' about problems she'd created.
