Unemployment levels drop

The Treasury Minister has praised the resilience of the Island's economy after a sharp fall in the level of unemployment.

The number of people registered unemployed in the Island decreased by 57 to 1,043 in February, according to statistics issued by the Economic Affairs Division of Treasury.

The numbers represent 2.3% of the economically active population.

During the month 278 people signed on and 335 people signed off. Of the total number of unemployed 757 were men and 286 were women.

Almost 500 job vacancies were notified to the Job Centre during February with 302 positions still vacant and on file at the end of the month.
