Treasure trove inquests to investigate Viking silver

Two “treasure trove” inquests will be held at Douglas Courthouse today (Monday) to determine what will happen to a number of historic artefacts found in the Island.

Up for discussion this afternoon are a haul of 60 silver coins and a piece of Viking hack silver which have been unearthed by metal detectors.

It has not been revealed where in the Island the finds were discovered but the piece of silver is believed to be one third of an arm ring.

Anyone who finds artefacts deemed as "treasure trove” is required to pass them through the coroner’s court to determine who the items belong to.
