Suspended sentence for man who assaulted special constable

27-year-old Marc Taggart struck the constable in the face in the early hours of November 7th at Ramsey Bus Station - he also resisted arrest and was found in possession of cannabis. 

 

A bus driver had found Taggart heavily intoxicated and asleep on a bus - police were called and had a warrant for his arrest for non-payment of previous fines.

 

His advocate told the court it had been a "wreckless" assault and he was asking for another chance saying Taggart had written to the constable involved to apologise. 

 

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes imposed an 18-week suspended prison sentence telling him he had a "horrendous record" and obviously hadn't learnt from his past mistakes. 

 

She also ordered him to pay £300 in compensation to the constable as well as paying £190 for his new glasses- in addition he was also ordered to pay prosecution costs and was handed a six month licensing ban.
