Firefighters were called out to an apartment block looking for a gas leak - In which they found a durian instead!
Douglas crews were dispatched to Spectrum apartments, Central promenade around 4am this morning to investigate the reported leak only to find the culprit was actually a durian fruit.
The fruit gives off a very pungent smell and can waft some distance.
Crews checked the corridors, underground car park, and various apartments with gas detection equipment but the readings were showing normal.
Grown across tropical South-east Asia, Durian is known for its bitter-sweet flavours, but those less fond of the pungent produce compare its odour to rotting garbage - or in this instance a gas leak.
This is not the first "offence" by the king of fruits as the durian is most commonly called, other Fire and Rescue services in Australia and USA have attended similar incidents related to the spikey fruit odour.
