Costs Of Road Traffic Accidents Can Range from £170,000 to £1.4 Million
After a recent influx of serious road traffic accidents the Police and Department of Infrastructure have partnered up to launch a Summer driving awareness campaign.
Operating under the slogan Summer Madness or Summer Sadness it’s reminding motorists to take it easy and bare in mind the extra traffic on the roads due to the Summer holidays.
People are also reminded of the potential for glare from the sun in the evenings, which has been known to blind motorists whilst driving if they're not prepared for it.
Asides from the human aspect there are also the financial implications, with the cost of a non-fatal road traffic accident totaling £170,000. A fatality on the roads can cost upto £1.4 million.
Inspector Mark Britton from the roads policing unit says recent accidents that are under investigation have seen people sustain horrific injuries and is urging people to be more cautious on the roads.
