Scottish Government Up in Arms Over New Fishing Restriction By-Law

Bulk of Scottish Trawlers Banned From Manx Waters

A new bylaw introduced banning the bulk of Scottish Scallop trawlers from Manx waters has been condemned by the Scottish Government.

The by-law was introduced to ensure that over-fishing doesn’t deplete the fish population.

The Scottish Government have called the by-law unnecessary and believe it’s less to do with fish sustainability and more to do with blocking out the Scottish fleets.

Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister John Shimmin said he disputes that accusation with the main imperitive behind the by-law being to ensure the protection of the fish numbers in Manx waters for the future .
