Ramsey men plead guilty to importing drugs

Two men from Ramsey have pleaded guilty to attempting to import over £22,000 of heroin to the Isle of Man.

36-year-old David Bonar and 32-year-old Scott Carbutt appeared at Douglas Courthouse this morning.

Bonar entered guilty pleas to four charges – two for being concerned in the production of cocaine and heroin and two for possession of both Class A drugs.

Carbutt also entered guilty pleas to four charges – two for the unlawful production of both heroin and cocaine and two for possession.

The court heard how Carbutt was arrested by police at Ronaldsway Airport on Tuesday evening after disembarking a flight from Glasgow.

He was taken to Noble’s Hospital where he produced nine packages – eight which contained 8.5 ounces of heroin and one which contained half an ounce of cocaine.

Bonar, who was meeting Carbutt at the airport, was also arrested as was his 61-year-old mother who is charged with money laundering offences.

Both men have been committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery for sentencing – they will appear on October 24th.

There was no application for bail and the men have been remanded at Jurby Prison.
