Punching friend lands man suspended prison sentence

A Port St Mary man who punched his friend in the face has been handed a suspended prison sentence after being told he should have walked away from the argument.

26-year-old Lee Cowle was sentenced to 24 weeks in custody, suspended for two years, at Douglas Courthouse this week.

He'd previously pleaded guilty to assault, causing actual bodily harm, after striking the freind with a clenched fist on Lord Street in Douglas in the early hours of June 5th.

An intoxicated Cowle lashed out when the man passed comment on his son - his advocate told the court it was done in the "heat of the moment" and he'd now lost his friend through "ill judgement".

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Cowle "make the most of the opportunities given to you - it's time to turn your life around".
