Public encouraged to get involved with Operation Christmas Child

Last year the Island contributed 3000 boxes to the appeal.

The annual festive charity initiative Operation Christmas Child is well underway again with a mass appeal going out to the Manx public to get involved.

The Isle of Man has been part of the scheme for many years now, it encourages people to put together a shoebox of small presents, which will then be shipped to a needy child in poverty stricken and war torn countries.

You have to wrap the shoebox in festive wrapping paper, filling the box with toys, clothing, stationary, sweets and basic toiletries.

Last year the Island contributed 3000 boxes to the appeal.

We spoke to Area Co-ordinator Marlene Akitt who told us she has first hand knowledge that the boxes reach the children most in need.
