Prisoners request hospital check-over after protest

A relation of an inmate at the Isle of Man Prison has told 3FM yesterday’s so-called ‘peaceful protest’ resulted in two protesters being taken to hospital with minor injuries.

An official statement from the Department of Home Affairs this morning praised prison staff for their ‘professional’ behaviour, which resulted in prisoners being returned to their cells ‘without the use of force’.

It’s now understood two inmates requested hospital treatment following minor injuries incurred during their time protesting.

It's believed one individual was checked over in Noble’s Hospital and the other in Ramsey.

Minister Watterson confirmed to 3FM that neither have been hospitalised and it’s understood neither injury was because of force used by prison officers.

A total of 17 prisoners were involved in the protest and were placed in segregation on a restricted regime.
