Prison stats revealed in Tynwald

Drugs offences result in highest number of incarcerations

A question asked in Tynwald yesterday by newcomer MHK Zac Hall has shed some light on the prison population of Jurby and what incidents have led to the most incarcerations.

He was seeking to see the breakdown by offence of the population at three dates over the past year, this wasn’t possible due to the way the data is stored, however a sample was taken from a day this month.

It revealed that incidents relating to drugs where the most prominent, with 44 cases reported ranging from production of drugs to possession with intent to supply.

21 incidents relating to violence had resulted in imprisonment, with theft accounting for 17.

The question marked the first to be asked by the Liberal Vannin member who was voted in, in last months election.
