The Department of Infrastructure says it has no plans to make wearing cycle helmets compulsory.
Onchan MHK Rob Callister had asked Infrastructure Minister Michelle Haywood about any such proposals in a question for written reply.
In her response, Dr Haywood said the Road Traffic Act 1985 doesn't allow her department to make regulations to forcing bike riders to wear helmets, although the Island's Highway Code suggests they should.
And she added there are no plans at the moment to change the law to make it a legal requirement.
