Householders Urged to Hang Up Phone If Contacted by Someone Posing as Microsoft Sales Rep
The Office of Fair Trading have warned the Manx Public to be wary of a new telephone scam.
In this latest one the scammer is posing as a sales rep for an IT supplier.
Those that have been on the receiving end say that they’ve been contacted by someone saying they’re from Microsoft telling them their computer has a virus, they then offer their services to repair the virus, for a fee.
In the event that this happens you need to hang up the phone immediately, and report it to the OFT.
You should also ask for the details of the company, and be wary if they only provide a mobile phone number.
Consumers may wish to consider asking for their names to be removed from telemarketing lists. To do so you should contact the Telephone Preference Service, telephone 020 7291 3320 or visit its website www.tpsonline.org.uk
