The Department of Infrastructure says it's had to close the Mountain Road because of 'significant current pressures' on emergency services.
It's in force with immediate effect, 11.50am, Saturday, June 6.
The decision has be made on public safety grounds, so emergency services can respond to incidents without delay.
Officials say the situation will be kept under review, and reopen as soon as it's safe to do so.
