Home Affairs Minister Bill Malarkey says the emergency services do have non-emergency numbers - but anybody who needs urgent help should still ring 999.
In Tynwald yesterady he faced a question from North Douglas MHK David Ashford about non-urgent calls from the public.
Mr Malarkey said people can contact the police on 631212 or the fire and rescue service on 647300, but only for non-emergencies.
He revealed calls to the Emergency Services Joint Control Room are now routed much more quickly than in the past:
