Minister responds to Aer Arran route closure

The Infrastructure Minister has reacted to the news that Aer Arann is to close the London City Route.

David Cretney said Aer Arran’s decision to stop the service on April 1st was disappointing news for the Island.

It follows a change in strategy for the company which will see all flights that connect to and from Ireland operate under a franchise agreement with Aer Lingus Regional.

The London City route is the only route with no connection to Ireland and in operating it Aer Arran has to keep additional infrastructure in place, including a call centre, at additional cost.

Mr Cretney thanked the pilots and cabin crew based on the Island and said the department was working hard to find an alternative carrier for the route.
