McGuinness sets pace at TT practice

The results from the first practice here.

Qualifying for the 2011 Isle of Man TT got underway last night both the solos and sidecars were able to get in two laps before heavy rain and hail called the session to a halt.

In a break from the usual schedule, the sidecars were out first on the course to give the solo riders who had been competing at the Thruxton BSB round time to make it to the Island for the session.

Klaus Klaffenbock and his local sidecar passanger Dan Sayle got the fastest lap on the sidecars. All eyes were on the duo following a hugely successful TT 2010.

On the solo's the quickest man on the opening lap was Gary Johnson who took the East Coast Racing Honda round at 122.463mph.

The 'Rasmey Rocket' Conor Cummins' completed a first lap of 116.063mph. He said afterwards on twitter; 'Well, that was the best night of my life. Back racing on the TT course. Just took my time and found my way round!'

Morecambe's John McGuinness was able to top the solo leaderboard before the session was ended early due to heavy rain on the mountain.

There were lots of newcomers getting their first taste of the Mountain Course in both the sidecar and solo pratices.
