The Manxman became the first British champ since 1965.

Mark Cavendish made history in Denmark yesterday becoming Britain’s first world road race champion for 46 years.

Riding for Great Britain the 8 man team controlled the peloton from the offset of the 266km course.

Cav was set up to bring home the victory in typical fashion with a bunch sprint finish, coming in ahead of Australia’s Matt Goss and German rider Andre Greipel.

The Manxman became the first British champ since 1965.

The win caps off an amazing season for Cav which has also seen him secure the coveted green jersey in the Tour De France back in July.
