Man Cleared of Rape Charge While Awaiting Trial
In a bizarre case a local man has been cleared while in prison over serious rape accusations.
Last April Jamie Patrick Fitzsimmons was charged with rape of a male juvenile and upon entering a not guilty plea the trial was set to commence in June of this year.
However at the beginning of the month the prosecution conceded that no evidence that support the charge could be presented and as a consequence a not guilty verdict was recorded.
Fitzsimmons is now pursuing a civil claim in relation to the circumstances of his arrest, detention and prosecution.
