Major search operation underway for missing fishermen

A search is currently being carried out after two men have dissapeared following a fishing trip in the North of the Island.

They were reported as missing after they failed to return home yesterday and friends and family had failed to make contact with them.

The pair were believed to be fishing off Blue Point sometime around lunchtime; a flat bottomed dingy believed to have belonged to the men has since been found upturned.

Lifeboats from Peel and Ramsey have assisted in the search, with air support coming from RAF Valley and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

The men are described as being both in their late 60s, one was last seen wearing blue jeans and a polo top with glasses and thinning grey hair, the second male also with grey receding hair was believed to be wearing black pants, black wellies and possibly a grey coloured flotation suit.

The Police are appealing to local fishermen and members of the public out on pleasure craft or using the beaches in the area to be vigilant and report any concerns or potential sightings to Liverpool Coastguard who are co-ordinating resources on Telephone 01519313341 or alternatively the local Police Control room on 631212. Alternatively fishermen or public on boats can use the local VHF radio channel 16 to report any sightings or concerns.
