Braddan commissioners have applied for permission to borrow more than £187,000 to improve street lighting in the area.
The local authority has asked the Department of Infrastructure if it can borrow the cash.
In its application, it says it wants to replace 90 streetlights in the parish.
The petition is now being considered by the department and people have until Sunday, December 14 to submit their views.
