Government's payment system hits one billion milestone

One billion pounds has been paid to government via the internet.

It launched its online payment service in 2007 to enable people to pay for things like parking fines, car tax and to submit their tax forms.

Government says the milestone is clear evidence that people want to interact online and say it is a way of making things smaller and smarter.
