Firework safety campaign launched

The campaign is operating under the slogan \'Be Safe Not Sorry - Always Follow The Code\'.

A major initiative is once again underway on the Island promoting Firework Safety on the Island in the build up to Bonfire night.

The campaign is operating under the slogan 'Be Safe Not Sorry - Always Follow The Code'.

The main message the services are wanting to promote is no-one under 18 is allowed to buy and operate fireworks.

Figures show throughout the UK each year half of the people involved in incidents are under-age.

The OFT's involvement is to act as a reminder to retailers that anybody caught breaking the laws and selling to teens under the age of 18 will be prosecuted.

During the period of 28th October to midnight on 6th November 2011 firework displays can be held without notifying the Department of Home Affairs but anyone planning a display outside of that period must notify the Department at least 21 days in advance of the display date.
