Firework displays can be held from today till next Sunday

Those holding parties reminded to \'be safe, not sorry, always follow the code\'

Today marks the first official day that you're able to hold a fireworks display without first seeking the permission of the Department of Home Affairs.

The emergency services along with the Office of Fair Trading launched a joint campaign earlier in the week promoting the message, 'Be safe not sorry, always follow the code'.

The central theme of the campaign is that kids and fireworks do not mix, with the sale to under 18s strictly prohibited.

The Office of Fair Trading have been involved to ensure retailers have not been breaking any of these laws, with strict punishments in place for those who do so.

Bonfire night falls next Saturday, and from Sunday 6th at midnight if you want to hold a display you must give the Department of Home Affairs 21 days pre-warning.
