Fire & Rescue service launch 'Fire Bike'

The Fire and Rescue Service has introduced a new emergency vehicle to its fleet to try and reduce the number of motorbike incidents on the Island.

The 'Fire Bike' 12 Kawasaki motorbike will be used to spearhead an education and publicity campaign targeted at both novice and experienced riders.

Firefighters will travel around the Island on the bike to highlight and promote discussion around key road safety issues, risks and consequences.

It is hoped that the bike will become a focal point for engaging with new riders as they venture out on to public highways.

There is no cost to the Department of Home Affairs for this initiative as the bike has been supplied by Jason Griffiths Motorcycles and a private individual is sponsoring the leathers, helmets and fuel.
