Film that documents 1930's deaf community to be shown

Rare film footage of deaf people visiting the Isle of Man in the 1930s will be shown this weekend in an effort to promote deaf history and culture.

It's part of a 'Sing and Sign in the Park' event which is taking place at the Villa Marina in Douglas and Moorgah Park in Ramsey.

The 70-year-old films were lost until recently when they were discovered and rescued from a basement by a builder in London.

The films reveal a 'lost world of deaf people' and capture the activities of deaf people on the Island - they were seen as a medium to strengthen and unite the wider deaf community.

As well as the films, visitors to the event will be able to listen and watch a singing and sign language interpreted choir who will be wearing 1930s period costume.
