'Fall from grace' for worker caught stealing from workplace

A retail assistant who's suffered a "fall from grace" after being caught stealing over £400 from her workplace has been sentenced to community service.

41-year-old Nicola Kewley was told she must carry out 140 hours of unpaid work as punishment for the theft from Ramsey Warehouse.

She originally denied stealing the money between April 30th and May 17th but changed her plea and was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse yesterday.

A customer reported Kewley after noticing her receipt didn't tally with the items she'd bought - CCTV and till audits were checked which highlighted the discrepancies.

Sentencing her Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said she'd breached the trust of her employer and had lost her good character in "spectacular fashion".

She sentenced her to 120 hours of community service for the theft, with an additional 20 hours in lieu of prosecution costs - she also ordered her to pay back the money she stole as compensation.
