Ellan Vannin remembrance service

A memorial service to mark the 102nd anniversary of the Ellan Vannin tragedy takes place on Saturday.

The service will be in honour of the 21 crew and 14 passengers who lost their lives on December 3, 1909 when the ship sank as it approached Liverpool.

There will be a memorial service on West Quay in Ramsey at 2pm by Father Brian O’Mahony of Our Lady’s Star of the Sea and St Maughold Church.

The Chief Minister will be in attendance while the Ramsey Town Band and Huey Jones, composer of the Ellan Vannin ballad, will perform.

In attendance will be ancestors of passengers from both the Isle of Man and the UK who lost their lives.
