Douglas Lifeboat was launched last night following a report of three people in the sea off Clay Head.
The Sir William Hillary began its search at 5.45pm covering Groudle Beach to Garwick at the southern end of Laxey Bay.
The lifeboat was joined in its search by a helicopter - RESCUE 936 - based out of Caernarfon Airport, which had been scrambled to assist.
Both completed two sweeps of the assigned search area without finding any trace of people in the water.
The helicopter returned to base whilst the lifeboat completed a further sweep of the search area before also being stood down to return to station.
