Dog laws amended to improve Byelaw powers

A bill amendment recently introduced in the House of Keys will see extensions to the areas where Byelaws exist in relation to dog fouling.

As it stands there are areas falling through the net, with the amendment to The Dogs Bill looking to rectify this.

It now means the usual byelaws will exist in car parks, churchyards, recreation and sports grounds as well as land owned by the Department to which the public have access.

The change to the Byelaw also means that the Department can specify further exemptions by order instead of creating new primary legislation.

DEFA Minister Phil Gawne said essentially the changes will bring about a blanket bye-law in relation to dog fouling in public space.
