Cork air tragedy interim report released

The Manx2 flight crashed on February 10 last year

Some key details have been revealed regarding the Cork plane crash following the publication of official reports.

Ireland’s Air Accident Investigation Unit has confirmed there was a small imbalance with one of the two engines on the plane which crashed almost exactly one year ago.

However, the interim report couldn’t confirm that this was necessarily the cause of the crash.

Six people died when the Manx2 flight crashed on approach to Cork Airport after leaving Belfast some time earlier.

The Investigation Unit have said they cannot yet issue a final report on what caused the crash.

It says that no pre-accident defects were identified in the plane's airframe, propellers or engines but there was a mismatch between the torques being delivered by the two engines.

The torque delivered by the number two engine on the plane exceeded that being delivered by number one by up to 5%.

The report also found that a sensor on the plane was faulty, resulting in an incorrect temperature reading for one engine.

Manx2 has welcomed the report, saying the Investigation Team has their full support.
