Chief Minister praises Olympic hopefuls

Mark Cavendish

The Chief Minister has wished the Isle of Man’s Olympic medal hopefuls good luck on behalf of the people of the Island.

Allan Bell has said it is truly remarkable that such a small nation has two representatives at the biggest sporting event in the world.

Mark Cavendish could become Britain’s first gold medallist of the Games if he wins today’s 250km race and will be aiming to produce one of his trademark sprint finishes in the closing stages of The Mall.

Peter Kennaugh will also be looking for a win as a member of the British quartet competing in the team pursuit at the London Velodrome.

A third Island cyclist, Ben Swift, is in Great Britain’s men’s squad and is on standby for the road race and team pursuit events.
