Ban for man with 'out of control' German Shepherd

A Douglas man has been banned from having a dog after letting his German Shepherd roam free whilst he slept.

58-year-old Barry Corkill, of Laburnum Avenue, appeared at Douglas Courthouse last week.

He admitted breaching a court order, which was imposed in March, that required him to keep the animal under control.

Police were called to Cedar Grove just after 3.30pm on April 5th after reports that the dog - called Toby - was loose and out of control.

They found the German Shepherd being 'particularly boisterous' and jumping up at another man who was trying to walk his dog.

Corkill was found drunk and asleep on a nearby bench - he was so intoxicated he was unable to speak.

Representing himself in court Corkill said Toby had belonged to his son but had now been rehomed - he told Magistrates: "I have no intention of having any other dogs".

Magistrates fined him £100 and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £50 - he was also banned from keeping dogs for two years.
