14 Tynwald Day petitions deemed 'in order'

17 petitions were handed over on this year's Tynwald Day by people who had grievances they wanted to air.

Of those Petitions for Redress of Grievance 14 were deemed 'in order' with three thrown out for not adhering to the rules of the process.

The figures have been revealed by the Standing Orders Committee of Tynwald which has gone through them to approve them.

Petitions which were accepted included issues around animal cruelty, salaries of public servants, drainage systems, good governance and TV licences.

However the committee says it viewed "with distaste" the use of the petitions system for complaints against individual people and says it will consider reviewing Standing Orders to rule these out automatically in the future.
