Work commences on footbridge to link estate to new Bemahague School

The Mountain Road will be closed between Signpost Corner and Governor’s Bridge

Major work will begin today to erect a new footbridge that will link the Governor's Hill estate with the new Bemahague secondary school in Onchan.

The Mountain Road will be closed between Signpost Corner and Governor’s Bridge from 6am today to allow the work to take place.

The bridge is seen as a key milestone in the building of the school, with the £33.8 million facility set to open in September 2012.

It will be taking on 700 St Ninian's Pupils from years 7 to 9.

Work should be completed by the end of the week,  and it's hoped that the bridge will be in use by the public by late November.
