Woman pleads guilty to injuring child on zebra crossing

Kirstyn Horne appeared at Douglas Courthouse yesterday where she admitted one count of causing serious bodily harm by driving without due care and attention. 

 

She was driving her friend's Ford Fiesta along Harris Promenade in Douglas on June 15th when she hit the four-year-old as she was a third of a way across the crossing. 

 

The little girl, who was being accompanied by her father, was thrown into the air before landing on the road - she suffered a fractured skull and lacerations to her chin.

 

Her father said he knew the car was approaching too fast and that his daughter was going to be hit. 

 

Horne told police at the scene she hadn't seen the child and didn't realise there was a crossing there - her advocate described it as a "momentary lapse of concentration". 

 

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes dismissed it as more than that and asked for reports to be compiled ahead of sentencing on January 20th.
