Warning issued over electrical substations

Damage was caused to this substation on the Ballalough estate

The MEA has issued a plea to the public about the dangers of ignoring warning messages at electrical substations.

During the last half-term damage was caused to a substation in the Ballalough housing estate in Castletown by children throwing bricks and stones at the building and climbing onto the roof.

It has prompted the MEA to warn the public of the potentially fatal consequences – including electrocution, power outages and explosions - of such actions ahead of the Easter holidays.

All substations are marked clearly with yellow Danger of Death signs to alert people to the hazards.

Parents have also been asked to speak to their children about the dangers of playing near to and around the buildings and to make sure they know how serious the consequences can be.
