UNESCO has officially recognised the 200th anniversary of the formation of the RNLI, following its General Conference.
The UN agency has confirmed it's endorsing the lifesaving charity's anniversary because of its international reach and recognition.
Since the RNLI was founded on the Island in 1824, its lifeboat crews have saved more than 144,000 lives across the UK.
James Bridge, UK National Commission Secretary-General, says the work of the RNLI goes far beyond the boundaries of the British Isles, which has contributed to its anniversary receiving global UNESCO recognition.
