Hole Blasted into Pier by Vessell Propellors and Engine Pressure
During a scheduled underwater survey of the Victoria Pier in Douglas diving teams discovered a major hole towards its base.
The hole is believed to have been created by the pressure from the jetwash and propellers of the vessels Mannanan and Snaefell – the two boats that dock on that side of the pier.
The hole under the Pier is 7.2 metres in length and extends for 3.5 metres underneath.
The Department of Infrastructure are confident they can do a quick fix on the problem, they will have to wait until the Fast Craft vessels stop running for the winter before they take care of it fully however.
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne says he is confident the hole won't pose any major problems.
