Teenager admits using threatening language to Police

A teenager’s walked free from court after abusing police days after she was released from prison.

Rosemary Burgess of Clifton Terrace in Douglas appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse via a live video link from police headquarters.

She admitted one count of using threatening, insulting or abusive language on Loch Promenade on May 27.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing Burgess dialled 999 shortly before 5am and asked police to help because she was stuck inside the roadworks on Douglas Promenade.

Officers helped free her from the fencing, but she turned abusive when they suspected she was carrying drugs and searched her - no drugs were found.

Burgess had been released from the Isle of Man Prison on May 21 after admitting producing cannabis, possessing it, criminal damage, provoking behaviour, theft and breaching Covid regulations.

Her advocate Paul Rodgers told the court the incident had been a minor one and the 18 year old used the F-word as a matter of course, even to those she loved.

Magistrates noted she’d already spent 31 hours in custody before appearing in court and granted her a 12-month conditional discharge.
