Sculptors plan studio and workshop

Two Island artists best-known for a huge sheep sculpture on Snaefell have applied to build an art and pottery studio in St Marks.

Darren Jackson and Stephanie Quayle-Jackson have applied to transform a disused barn at Ballagraingey Farm into a home and studio.

The couple also built a 30-foot sculpture of the Manx sea god Manannan at the Glen Lough camp site for the Mannifest event.

In their application they say they want to use the facility to produce sculptures to be sold around the world.

The couple say the workshop and studio in another of the farm buildings would specialise in producing larger sculptures.

Other future projects would include an ice-carving studio and creating works of art for a new sculpture park.

But they add the rest of the family farm would continue producing beef and lamb.

The development would also include accommodation for up to four visiting artists to create what they say would be an international art hub.
