The Department of Education, Sport and Culture says it wants to install a flight of steps at a school to stop youngsters slipping on a steep bank.
It's lodged a planning application for Ashley Hill Primary School in Onchan.
It says children have to climb a slope to get to the playing fields from its tennis courts, which gets trickier in wet weather.
And it adds the steps would provide a safe, formal route for both children and staff.
