Social housing tenants have had their rents increased by two per cent.
The Department of Infrastructure put up public sector rents on Saturday - it will result in an average weekly increase of between £1.10 and £1.87.
And Minister Ray Harmer says government is continuing to look at introducing means testing:
Tenants who have their rent paid through their benefits will be unaffected.
The department says it does recognise that public sector rents are still significantly lower than for equivalent housing in the private sector - something Mr Harmer says he's keen to address:
