The Swing Bridge in Ramsey could be set to join the Register of Protected Buildings.
An application has been made for the landmark to join the Island's register of buildings of special architectural or historical interest.
The Swing Bridge was built in 1892, with an extensive refurbishment undertaken in 2013.
The application says it represents a rare example of Victorian engineering, and has provided an important link from West Quay to the Mooragh whilst still enabling maritime access.
Details are currently being assessed to determine if the bridge meets the criteria.
