Railway season extended by three weeks

The Isle of Man Steam Railway and Manx Electric Railway will keep on running for a further three weeks.

Government says following a successful season with Island residents and visitors from Guernsey, both heritage lines will continue until October 4.

The steam engines will run Thursday to Sunday this week, and then on weekends only until that ending date, whilst the MER route will be operating today and tomorrow (September 14-15) and then also run a weekend-only service until October 4.

The Dining Car has been popular over the last few months with most of those experiences selling out - it'll keep going between Thursdays and Sundays until October 4.

Back in July, officials announced the Islands railways would be partially re-opening for the summer period following the end of the Coroanvirus lockdown - since that month more than 27,000 passengers have used the trams and trains.

The Snaefell Mountain Railway has not been running this summer due to 'operational and financial challenges'.

Speaking about the update, Infrastructure Minister, Tim Baker MHK, says: "I’m delighted we have been able to extend the seasons on both routes and I know the staff involved are looking forward to welcoming passengers on board into the autumn."
