Pupils to receive GCSE results today

Over 800 students across the Isle of Man will be receiving their GCSE results this morning.

Final results are going to be based on teacher-assessed grades rather than a controversial computer algorithm following a major u-turn over this years exams earlier this week.

Under the computer system, around 40 per cent of A-level students saw their marks downgraded last week, sparking widespread criticism.

Meanwhile, Cambridge Assessment International, the awarding body for IGCSE subjects, confirmed earlier this week that if the grades issued by them last week to Year 11 pupils via secure logins are higher than the pupil’s centre assessment grade, the higher grade will stand.

The results are being based on predicted grades and coursework this year after exams on Manx shores were cancelled back in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, Education, Sport & Culture Minister, Dr Alex Allinson MHK, stated last week a range of support and advice will be offered to help pupils make the right decisions over their futures.
