A man with a “mountain” of unpaid fines has been put on probation after admitting trying to break a ban on buying alcohol.
Ralph John Walker of Derby Road in Douglas appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
The 51-year-old admitted attempting to breach a Licensing Act ban on August 8 last year and being drunk in public on January 6.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the hearing Walker had tried to buy a can of cider in a shop in Bathurst Street in Douglas, and gave a false name when the manager recognised and challenged him.
His advocate told the court Walker had around £1,500 in outstanding fines after previous alcohol-related convictions and had been the subject of a probation order.
Magistrates revoked that order and placed him on probation for 24 months, as well as banning him from entering on-licensed premises or buying alcohol for two years.
