Pre-school important for social development

The chief executive of Education and Children has told 3FM that government does recognise the value of pre-school education.

Last month Government announced its decision to scrap free pre-school places saying the system was unfair as only 55 per cent of children in the Island benefitted from it. 

Yesterday plans for a new credit scheme were unveiled which will see parents receive £350 per year towards sending their children to privately run pre-school nurseries. This will increase to £1,150 for children from families on low incomes. 

Stuart Dobson said he hoped the new scheme would encourage parents to make use of pre-school facilities even if it was to a reduced degree:
